While the film takes liberties, it respects the Joseon era’s essence. The concept of a “virtuous widow” ( yeollyeo ) — expected to remain chaste after her husband’s death — is historically accurate. The film challenges this ideal without mocking it. Detective K himself is fictional, but his methods echo real Korean historical figures like (inventor) and Jeong Yak-yong (scholar who wrote on investigative techniques).
