The film centers on (played by Kamal Haasan), a humble dance assistant in the film industry who is divorced from his wife Janki (Tabu). Because Janki's wealthy father, Durgaprasad Bhardwaj, disapproves of Jai, he is restricted from seeing his daughter, Bharti.
