Contrary to popular belief, "everyone does it" is not a legal defense. In India, the Cinematograph Act (1952) and the Copyright Act (1957) provide for jail time (up to 3 years) and fines (up to ₹10 lakhs) for downloading or distributing pirated content. While prosecution of viewers is rare, ISPs (Internet Service Providers) are increasingly throttling speeds for known pirate IPs.
Let’s be honest: the experience is terrible.
