Pharaoh Akhenaten, who ruled from approximately 1353 to 1336 BCE, was a radical and visionary leader. He is best known for introducing monotheistic worship of the sun god Aten, significantly departing from the traditional Egyptian polytheistic beliefs. This religious revolution was just one aspect of his broader agenda to transform Egyptian society. Akhenaten's vision for a new Egypt led to the construction of a new capital, Amarna, which was to serve as the center of his sun-worshipping cult.
